Diyar Nurgozhay failed to meet weight requirements for his debut UFC fight.
The new Contender Series recruit weighed in at 210.5 pounds, exceeding the limit by 4.5 pounds (including the one-pound allowance for non-title fights) for his main card light heavyweight matchup against Brendson Ribeiro at UFC Vegas 104 on Saturday. Ribeiro, on the other hand, successfully made weight at 205.5 pounds.
The status of the fight is uncertain, as it is not confirmed whether it will proceed as a catchweight bout or what percentage of Nurgozhay’s purse will be forfeited as a penalty.
In contrast, UFC Vegas 104 headliners Marvin Vettori and Roman Dolidze had no trouble making weight, both weighing in at 186 pounds for their rematch. Vettori previously defeated Dolidze via unanimous decision in their initial encounter at UFC 286 in March 2023.
Two other fighters also missed weight for the event on Saturday: welterweight Chidi Njokuani and bantamweight Josias Musasa. Njokuani was 1.25 pounds over the limit at 172.25 pounds, while Musasa exceeded the limit by 0.5 pounds at 136.5 pounds.
The fate of Njokuani and Musasa’s respective matches with Elizeu Zaleski and Carlos Vera is still up in the air.
