UFC’s Tai Tuivasa way above heavyweight limit, eyes octagon return

Tai Tuivasa is gearing up for his anticipated return to the UFC after a hiatus.

Having last fought in a split decision loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 305 in August, Tuivasa is determined to shed the extra pounds and get back in fighting shape. Weighing at 308 pounds, 42 pounds above the UFC heavyweight limit, the 32-year-old fighter is focused on his comeback.

“I’m looking at the beginning of next year,” Tuivasa stated on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “I need to hit the gym, get fit, and be prepared.”

Prior to his recent losing streak, Tuivasa (15-8 MMA, 8-8 UFC) had enjoyed a five-fight winning streak, all by knockout, and was on the brink of becoming a title contender. Eager to reclaim that status, Tuivasa expressed his hunger for success.

“This break was necessary for me,” Tuivasa explained. “It has given me clarity on my goals. While I’ve been focusing on my businesses, the fighter in me is itching to return. I have something to prove, and I’m far from finished.”

UFC heavyweights ‘all sh*t’ except Jones, Aspinall

Tuivasa didn’t hold back in criticizing the current state of the UFC’s heavyweight division, singling out only interim champion Tom Aspinall and champion Jon Jones for praise.

“During my time off, I’ve reflected on the heavyweight division,” Tuivasa remarked. “To be frank, they’re all subpar, with the exceptions of Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. The rest are just average.”
