The 2035 Women’s World Cup is set to be hosted by the United Kingdom as the sole official bidder for the tournament, as confirmed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino. A joint bid was put forward by England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to host the tournament across the four home nations in 10 years’ time. The hosting rotation rules of FIFA dictate that the competition must be held in either Europe or Africa for that particular edition.
Despite indications from Spain’s football federation president Rafael Louzan about a potential joint bid with Portugal and Morocco, the UK remains the only valid bid for the 2035 Women’s World Cup, with the deadline for declarations of interest now closed. On the other hand, the United States is seen as the frontrunner to host the 2031 tournament.
During a UEFA congress in Belgrade, Infantino announced, “Today I can confirm as part of the bidding process that we received one bid for 2031 and one valid bid for 2035.”

Mark Bullingham, the chief executive of the FA, expressed his delight at the news and stated, “We are honored to be the sole bidder for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035. The hard work begins now to create the best possible bid by the end of the year.”
Head coach of the Lionesses, Sarina Wiegman, commented, “Another tournament on an even bigger stage would be incredible and give another boost to the game.”
Formal bids for the 2035 Women’s World Cup must be submitted this winter, with FIFA expected to confirm the hosts through a vote at its 2026 congress. Furthermore, Infantino disclosed that the 2031 Women’s World Cup will expand to 48 teams, up from the 32 teams planned for the 2027 edition.
If the UK is confirmed as the host for the 2035 Women’s World Cup, it would be the second time a World Cup is held in the UK, following the 1966 men’s tournament in England.
