Mallory Swanson had a valid reason for her absence at the start of the Chicago Stars’ regular season – she and her husband, Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, shared the exciting news on social media that they are expecting their first child.
Swanson had been away from the Stars due to personal reasons, missing the entire season. Her last competitive game was in November during the playoffs. She also did not participate in the SheBelieves Cup camps with the U.S. women’s national team.
The Stars currently hold a 1-1-5 record, ranking 14th in the NWSL standings. Swanson is expected to sit out the rest of the NWSL season.
Last year, Swanson had a standout performance with the USWNT, scoring a crucial goal in the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics.
Mallory and Dansby have been a couple since 2017 and tied the knot in 2022 after his final season with the Atlanta Braves. Dansby, a two-time All-Star with the Cubs, has been performing well this season with a .236 batting average, seven home runs, and 20 RBI. The Cubs currently lead the NL Central with a 22-16 record.
