Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has expressed the club’s determination to challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League titles this season.
Despite narrowly missing out on the Premier League title in recent years, finishing as runners-up to Manchester City, Arsenal currently sits third in the table, six points behind the leaders, keeping them firmly in the title race.
Having returned to the Champions League last season after a six-year absence, Arsenal reached the quarter-finals, and Saka is eager to push the team even further this term.
“We’re not scared,” Saka told BBC Sport. “We’ve been close to competing for the league in the last two seasons. We’re also back in the Champions League, so we feel ready to compete for every trophy. We want to take that next step and try to win something.”
Arsenal last secured a major trophy in 2020 by winning the FA Cup. Saka, who was part of that winning squad, has since experienced several near-misses, including finishing second in the Premier League twice and losing in two European Championship finals.
Reflecting on those disappointments, Saka said, “It’s horrible. It’s just extra fuel and motivation for me. I want to get over the line this season and lift the trophy.”
At just 23, Saka has become a key player for both Arsenal and the England national team. Despite being compared to legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Saka remains focused on his goals and not external recognition.
“I know what I want to achieve in the game,” Saka explained. “People will always talk, regardless of what I do. So my mentality is to do my thing and live my life.”
