Daniel Ballard expressed his elation after his last-minute goal secured Sunderland’s spot in the Championship play-off final, defeating Coventry City in a thrilling semi-final match.

Despite Coventry’s dominant performance in the return leg at the Stadium of Light, Ephron Mason-Clark’s goal leveled the aggregate score late in normal time. Haji Wright missed a crucial chance for Coventry in stoppage time, setting the stage for Ballard’s heroics in extra time.

Ballard’s header off Enzo Le Fee’s corner sealed a 3-2 aggregate victory for Sunderland, setting up a showdown with Sheffield United at Wembley for a shot at the Premier League.

Reflecting on his match-winning goal, Ballard described it as a dream come true and praised the unwavering support from the fans. He also credited manager Regis Le Bris for showing faith in him during a crucial moment.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard commended his team’s efforts despite the heartbreaking defeat, emphasizing their strong performance over the two legs and expressing pride in their journey from 17th in the league to the play-offs.

While Lampard acknowledged Sunderland’s victory, he felt that Coventry deserved a better outcome based on their overall performance. He maintained a gracious attitude towards the result and congratulated Sunderland on their advancement to Wembley.

Overall, the dramatic semi-final clash between Sunderland and Coventry showcased the intensity and unpredictability of play-off football, setting the stage for an exciting final at Wembley.
