Could Jay Shah be the next International Cricket Council chairman?
Jay Shah is being considered as a potential successor to Greg Barclay as the new ICC chairman. While currently serving as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and a strong contender for the position, Shah’s election remains uncertain.
Reports suggest that Shah is open to the opportunity, given that BCCI regulations prohibit an individual from holding a third consecutive term. Although his term with the BCCI extends until late 2025, if elected as ICC chairman, the 35-year-old would assume office on December 1, 2024.
Current directors must submit nominations for the next Chair by August 27, 2024. In case of multiple candidates, an election will be conducted, with the new Chair commencing duties on December 1, 2024, according to an ICC press release.
