The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to appoint former South African pacer Morne Morkel as India’s new bowling coach based on the recommendation of Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir, who took over as the head coach post India’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, had previously mentored LSG in the 2023 season, guiding them to the playoffs.
As LSG prepares for the upcoming season, rumors suggest that a prominent Indian bowler might join the star-studded coaching lineup comprising Lance Kluesener, Johnty Rhodes, and Adam Voges.

Who will be LSG’s new mentor?
According to Cricbuzz, former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan is speculated to join LSG as their new mentor. Initially slated to join the Indian team as the bowling coach, Zaheer’s move was thwarted by Gambhir’s preference for Morkel, whom he had previously worked with. Zaheer Khan boasts an illustrious career, having represented India in over 300 international matches and playing 100 IPL games for teams like Delhi Daredevils (DD), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Mumbai Indians (MI).
Aside from the mentorship role, LSG is also expected to be active in the IPL 2025 mega auction. There are talks of the BCCI announcing retention rules allowing teams to retain up to six players along with Right to Match (RTM) options.
