Incredible T20I Finish: Suryakumar Yadav’s Bold Bowling Decisions Lead India to Victory
In a thrilling conclusion to the third T20I against Sri Lanka, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav made daring choices in the final overs that ultimately secured India’s win and a dramatic super over finish.
With the series already secured, Suryakumar surprised everyone by handing the ball to Rinku Singh for the 19th over, a player who had not bowled in international cricket before. Despite seasoned bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube available, Suryakumar trusted Rinku with this crucial over.
The gamble paid off as Rinku took two wickets for just three runs, putting India in a commanding position. Suryakumar then took the responsibility of bowling the final over himself, restricting Sri Lanka to just 5 runs and clinching two wickets to force a tie.
When asked about his unconventional choices, Suryakumar explained, “The decision for the 20th over was easy, the difficult part was for the 19th over. I felt Rinku was better suited for that wicket after seeing him bowl in the nets. It was the right call.”
Looking ahead, Suryakumar highlighted the importance of match-ups in the game, stating, “For a right-hander bowling to a left-hander, it is always difficult for the batter. Rinku’s performance has now given us another bowling option for future matches.”
India’s next challenge will be a 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on August 3 in Colombo.
