Estevao Willian’s agent Andre Cury revealed that Chelsea’s offer to allow his client to play in a central, attacking midfield position played a crucial role in the teenager’s decision to sign for the Blues over other interested clubs.
Nicknamed ‘Messinho’ for his dribbling skills and left foot, the Brazilian forward agreed to join Chelsea last summer but will only be able to join the team after the upcoming Club World Cup due to age restrictions.
Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment strategy has seen them acquire young talent from around the world, with the recent signing of Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP being a prime example.
Despite interest from clubs like Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, Estevao chose Chelsea because of the role they envisioned for him in the team.
“Chelsea was the only club that saw us as a No 10, to play in midfield,” said Estevao’s agent Cury in an interview with O Globo.
Although Estevao currently plays in a different position for Palmeiras, Cury believes his best role is as a central attacking midfielder.
Cury remains confident in Estevao’s abilities and is convinced that he will excel in the No 10 role at Chelsea.
However, the presence of Cole Palmer, who currently occupies the No 10 position for Chelsea, adds a layer of complexity to Estevao’s potential role in the team.
