Why Luis Robert should be a top trade candidate: White Sox center fielder still has huge upside for right team

After a historically bad season in 2024, the Chicago White Sox are making significant changes to improve the team and the organization. This includes a new manager, Will Venable, being named shortly after the World Series ended, as well as adjustments to the coaching staff and roster. One of the big moves expected this offseason is the trade of ace lefty Garrett Crochet, who had an impressive season and is nearing free agency. The White Sox are looking to turn Crochet into multiple young players to build for the future.

Another player who could be on the trading block is center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who had a disappointing 2024 season due to injuries and poor performance. Despite this, Robert remains a valuable trade candidate for teams looking to buy low and potentially help him regain his previous form. His youth, All-Star potential, and previous strong seasons make him an attractive option for teams willing to take a chance on him.

Reasons why Luis Robert Jr. remains a desirable trade chip:

1. He’s young, in his prime, and has shown All-Star potential in previous seasons.

2. There are few center fielders of Robert’s caliber available in free agency or trades, making him a valuable commodity for teams in need of outfield help.

Overall, despite his struggles in 2024, Robert’s upside and potential make him an intriguing trade target for teams willing to invest in his future development.

Perhaps you could try to acquire Leody Taveras or Alek Thomas? Jose Siri, who shares similarities with Robert, was recently traded to the Mets. While his skill set may have its drawbacks, center field is a challenging position to fill, and teams are willing to accept the bad with the good. The free-agent market for center fielders this winter is slim, with Harrison Bader being the best option available. However, Robert stands out as having the highest potential among the available center fielders.

Robert’s contract is team-friendly, with club options for 2026 and 2027, offering flexibility for teams. His salary is reasonable compared to other outfielders, making him an attractive option. Considering the White Sox owner’s frugality, they may be open to trading Robert at a discounted rate. Many teams could be interested in Robert due to his upside and affordable contract.

Potential landing spots for Robert could include the Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees. Each team has its reasons for pursuing Robert, whether it be to add depth, improve offense, or strengthen their outfield. Robert’s skill set could benefit any of these teams, providing them with a valuable asset in center field. If the Philadelphia Phillies decide to bring back Soto, he wouldn’t necessarily need to be their second-best hitter. Robert could be a valuable addition to the team, providing both offense and defense. Johan Rojas’ defensive skills are impressive, but his batting leaves much to be desired. Replacing him with Robert would boost the team’s offensive capabilities without compromising on defense. This move would add depth to the lineup, improve their outfield coverage, and create a strong defensive trio with Castellanos and Rojas. Robert seems like a perfect fit for Philadelphia, benefiting both the player and the team.
