Carlos Alcaraz has convincingly defeated Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon men’s singles final.

The match was a straight-sets affair, a departure from their previous lengthy battle in last year’s final, but the result remained the same – a victory for Alcaraz.

Alcaraz started strong on Centre Court, breaking Djokovic’s serve in the first game and going on to win the first two sets dominantly.

Despite Djokovic’s uncharacteristically flat performance, he fought back in the third set, almost staging a remarkable comeback.

Alcaraz did manage to break Djokovic and even had three championship points at 5-4, but nerves got the better of him.

This led to a tense tiebreak, where Alcaraz regained his composure and took the first match point to secure victory.

At just 21 years old, Alcaraz has now won four major championships, with this win being his second consecutive title at Wimbledon.

He has also maintained a perfect record in grand slam finals, becoming the youngest man to win both Wimbledon and the French Open in the same year.

“Honestly, it’s a dream for me to win this trophy,” Alcaraz said during the trophy presentation.

“It’s a great feeling to play on this beautiful court and to lift this trophy. It’s the most beautiful tournament.”

For Djokovic, this result means he will have to wait for his historic 25th major title, which would have set a new record for most grand slam singles titles won.

Despite undergoing knee surgery just over a month ago, Djokovic surprised many by making it to the final.

“I have to be very proud,” Djokovic said graciously in defeat.

“Obviously, there’s disappointment right now, but when I reflect on the last four to five weeks and what I’ve been through with the knee surgery, I’m very satisfied.

“I try to remind myself sometimes of how surreal it is to be here, blessed to fight for the trophy.

“Every time I step on the court, it feels like the first time. I’m a child living a childhood dream.”
