Is Jordan Spieth the Next Golfer to Complete the Career Grand Slam?
After Rory McIlroy secured the career grand slam, all eyes are now on Jordan Spieth. It’s his turn to make history.
Spieth has the chance to achieve the career grand slam at the upcoming PGA Championship. Despite coming close several times, this major championship has eluded him so far.
In 2015, Spieth finished second at the PGA Championship, the same year he won both the Masters and the U.S. Open. He also finished third in the tournament four years later and won the British Open in 2017.
While Spieth’s last major win was eight years ago, the pressure on him is not as intense as it was on McIlroy. McIlroy ended an 11-year major championship drought with his recent Masters win, becoming only the sixth golfer in history to complete the career grand slam.
Spieth’s career grand slam quest is different from McIlroy’s as the PGA Championship changes venues each year. This time, both will compete at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina.
Can Spieth Win the PGA Championship?
Spieth has proven himself on golf’s biggest stages in the past, making him a contender for the Wanamaker Trophy. However, his recent struggles and lack of major wins make him an underdog compared to past favorites.
Despite his recent form, Spieth has been consistent this season with only one missed cut in 10 starts. He will use the Truist Championship as his final tune-up before the PGA Championship.
As the pressure mounts for Spieth to complete the career grand slam, other competitors are eager to challenge him. Xander Schauffele, last year’s PGA Championship winner, acknowledged the difficulty of the task but finds it extremely motivating.
