The top-ranked women’s player Iga Świątek suffered a surprising defeat at Wimbledon, losing to unranked Yulia Putintseva in the third round. Putintseva’s victory marks a major upset in the tournament.

Despite winning five Grand Slam titles and holding the No. 1 position for a significant period, Świątek struggled in her match against Putintseva. The Polish star’s unforced errors proved costly as she was unable to maintain her early lead.

Świątek’s dominance in women’s tennis has been particularly evident on clay courts, where she has achieved most of her major victories. However, her quest for a Wimbledon title continues as she exits the tournament earlier than expected.

While this defeat may be a setback for Świątek, her resilience and determination have previously helped her reclaim the No. 1 ranking after temporary losses. Fans will be eager to see how she bounces back from this defeat in future competitions.

Putintseva’s next challenge will be facing Jeļena Ostapenko in the Round of 16, setting the stage for more exciting matchups in the tournament.
