76ers announce Joel Embiid had successful knee surgery, will be re-evaluated in 6 weeks

Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid underwent a successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee earlier this week, as confirmed by the team’s official announcement on Friday. He is expected to be re-evaluated in six weeks.

Back in February, Embiid was ruled out for the remainder of the season due to ongoing knee problems. The decision to sit him out was made to prioritize his long-term health and performance.

After weeks of uncertainty, Embiid recently opted for surgery, marking his second procedure on the same knee in a little over a year. Last year, he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in February 2024.

Throughout the current season, Embiid has been battling with knee issues. His absence from the first nine games was attributed to “left knee management,” which later sparked an NBA investigation into his game participation.

As the season progressed, it became evident that Embiid was not performing at his usual level. Following consultations with medical experts in February, he made the decision to undergo surgery for a fresh start.

With just two games left in the regular season, the 76ers find themselves in 13th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 24-56.
