The Philadelphia Phillies placed two of their top contributors on the injured list on Friday after they hurt their lower bodies during the final innings of Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins. Bryce Harper, who was named an All-Star starter, experienced a hamstring issue while running to first base, while Kyle Schwarber felt groin soreness during a rare outfield appearance. Both players underwent imaging on Friday, which confirmed strains in their respective injuries.
To fill the void, the Phillies activated infielder Kody Clemens from his rehab assignment and recalled outfielder Johan Rojas from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Harper, boasting a .303 batting average with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs, heads to the injured list with an estimated 3.7 Wins Above Replacement. It remains uncertain if he will be able to participate in the upcoming All-Star Game on July 16. Schwarber, on the other hand, with a .250 batting average and 17 home runs, adds an estimated 1.7 Wins Above Replacement to the team.
Both players expressed concern over their injuries, with Harper stating, “I’ve never felt anything like this before.” The Phillies, currently 53-28 on the season, will have to adjust their lineup in the absence of Harper and Schwarber, along with other injured players such as J.T. Realmuto, Taijuan Walker, and Spencer Turnbull.
