The New Orleans Pelicans made a significant move on Friday night, acquiring Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks in a win-now mentality.

In exchange, the Pelicans traded Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, and two first-round picks, a relatively reasonable package for the talented All-Star. This trade solidifies the Pelicans’ backcourt for the future, but raises questions about the future of Brandon Ingram, who has been the subject of trade rumors since the end of the season.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the trade, stating, “New Orleans struggled in clutch situations last season and sees Murray as a solution to generate offense late in games. The Pelicans are committed to their core group, including Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum, and are working towards a resolution with Brandon Ingram’s contract.”

New Orleans was 0-24 when trailing entering the fourth and 2-14 in close games and see Murray as a player who can generate offense late in games. Pels remain committed to core that includes Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum. Pels are trying to find common ground with Brandon Ingram…

While the team’s performance stats are concerning, the focus on reaching an agreement with Brandon Ingram is vital. To compete in the tough Western Conference, keeping Ingram or trading him for an equivalent star player is crucial. Despite a disappointing postseason, the 26-year-old still averaged 20.8 points per game in the regular season.

Fans have taken to social media to urge the Pelicans’ front office to retain Brandon Ingram in light of the recent trade.
