Speculation is mounting that guard Klay Thompson’s time with the Golden State Warriors may be coming to a close.
As an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Thompson is reportedly a target for several championship contenders. The Dallas Mavericks have now entered the conversation, with both parties showing interest, according to reporter Marc Stein.
“Recent indications suggest that Thompson’s relationship with the Golden State Warriors may be beyond repair,” Stein reported. “Sources within the league anticipate strong mutual interest between Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks once free agency begins on Sunday evening.”
Despite falling short in the NBA Finals last season against the dominant Boston Celtics, the Mavericks are considered contenders. While some may argue that Thompson’s best days are behind him, his performance last season tells a different story. He maintained an average of 17.9 points and shot 38.7% from beyond the arc in 77 games.
If Thompson were to join the Mavericks, it is expected that he would play as a small forward alongside the star duo of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
