LeBron James to Remain with the Los Angeles Lakers
LeBron James has reportedly decided to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers for the foreseeable future. According to various sources, James is set to ink a two-year, $104 million max deal with the team. This news comes shortly after the Lakers signed his son, rookie Bronny James, to a two-year guaranteed contract. The deal includes a player option and a no-trade clause, ensuring that James will be a fixture in L.A. for the next few seasons.
Despite being the oldest active player in the NBA at 39, James continues to perform at a high level. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game in 35 minutes of play.
James first joined the Lakers in 2018 on a four-year, $154 million deal. He later signed a two-year, $97.1 million extension in 2022, which included the player option he declined for the upcoming season.
During the 2024 All-Star weekend, James expressed his desire to retire as a Laker, stating, “I am a Laker, and I’ve been very happy being a Laker the last six years, and hopefully it stays that way.”
One of the factors influencing James’ decision was his son, Bronny, who was drafted by the Lakers as the No. 55 overall pick. James has long hoped to play alongside his son in the NBA, and with Bronny now officially on the team, that dream is set to become a reality. The father-son duo will be just the fourth in professional sports history to play together.
Despite recent playoff disappointments, including early exits and missed postseasons, James is determined to lead the Lakers to another championship under new head coach JJ Redick, who recently signed a four-year contract with the team.
