When it comes to facing challenges and speaking his mind, Dillon Brooks has always been a standout in the basketball world.

With Brooks gearing up to represent Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics, his confidence is soaring.

After leading the Canadian Men’s National Team to a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Canada is making its long-awaited return to the Olympic stage. Their journey begins with an exhibition game against Team USA.

Known for his bold statements, Brooks shared his thoughts on the upcoming matchup, hinting at the impact his words might have.

Dillon Brooks ready to make a statement against Team USA

As Team Canada faces off against Team USA in an exhibition game on July 10, Brooks revealed his mindset for the game.

“I see it as just another game, but I always aim to make a statement,” Brooks said. “We will be prepared, and we will give it our all to see our improvement on film afterwards.”

During the World Cup, Brooks scored 39 points in an overtime victory against Team USA in the bronze medal game. While that U.S. team consisted of rising stars, the Olympic roster now boasts legends like LeBron James and Stephen Curry.

Having faced Curry and James in NBA playoffs, Brooks seems ready to bring that competitiveness to the international stage.

“Initially, it was Steph and LeBron who set the tone, and the rest followed suit,” Brooks commented on Team USA’s lineup. “I appreciate their commitment, so let’s see who comes out on top. Talent against talent.”

Brooks highlighted Canada’s roster strengths, including All-NBA First Teamer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, NBA champion Jamal Murray, and other NBA talents.

“They need to step up defensively,” Brooks emphasized on the challenge Canada poses to Team USA and other competitors. “That’s our priority. Every team facing us will have to defend, scout, and we will stick to our game plan, making adjustments as needed.”

It has been nearly a century since Canada last medaled in men’s Olympic basketball. Following their bronze win at the FIBA World Cup, Brooks and his team are eyeing a golden victory in Paris.

“Last year was our time. Now, it’s our time this year. But this time, we’re aiming for gold,” Brooks declared.

Aside from facing Team USA, Canada will also take on Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama and the French National Team before their Olympic debut against Greece on July 27.

If the two teams meet in the elimination rounds, the stakes will be higher than ever, and Brooks will be prepared for the challenge.
