Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali recently shared his thoughts on Ishan Kishan’s struggles to make a comeback to the Indian cricket team.
Ishan Kishan was a part of India’s ODI World Cup squad last year but did not get a chance to play. His decision to leave the South Africa tour midway due to travel fatigue did not go down well with the BCCI.

As a result, Kishan was not included in the central contract list and has been excluded from the Indian team since then.
India is currently going through a transition phase post the retirements of players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The selectors are on the lookout for new talent but have consistently overlooked Kishan, even for the recent white-ball tour to Sri Lanka.

What did Basit Ali say about Ishan Kishan’s struggles?
Ali attributed Kishan’s struggles to distractions, stating, “Ishan Kishan has fallen down the pecking order. Woh bhi thoda sa fashion mein lag gaya tha (He got into fashion a bit).”
He also criticized the Sri Lankan cricket team for their poor performance in the T20I series against India.
“Sri Lanka deserved to not qualify for the Champions Trophy. It seems as if they are also more concerned about maintaining friendships, just as we have seen in the Pakistan team. My personal opinion is that their women’s team have performed better. Sri Lanka’s men’s team should learn from the women’s team how to keep the belief,” Basit Ali said.
Ishan Kishan’s career may have suffered due to his focus on non-cricketing activities and decisions that did not align with the team’s interests.
His journey back to the Indian team appears challenging, but it will be intriguing to see how (or if) he manages to find his way back into the team.
