The Cincinnati Reds had a record-breaking performance on Easter Sunday, scoring a whopping 24 runs in a dominant 24-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. This impressive offensive display marked the second-highest run total by the Reds since 1900.

The Reds’ scoring spree began in the third inning, where they exploded for seven runs to break a 1-1 tie. The onslaught was led by Elly De La Cruz, who kicked things off with a solo home run. The Reds continued to pile on runs, with multiple players contributing to the offensive outburst. Baltimore’s starting pitcher, Charlie Morton, struggled to contain the Reds’ lineup, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks in just 2 1/3 innings.

The Orioles’ pitching staff had a rough day overall, as relievers Cody Poteet and Cionel Pérez also struggled to keep the Reds’ bats at bay. Even position players Jorge Mateo and Gary Sánchez were called upon to pitch in relief, but they too were unable to slow down Cincinnati’s relentless offense.

Several Reds players had standout performances at the plate, with Austin Wynns and Noelvi Marte leading the charge. Wynns went an impressive 6-for-7 with six RBI, while Marte drove in seven runs, including a grand slam. Austin Hays also had a strong showing, collecting four hits and scoring four runs.

The 24 runs scored by the Reds in this game rank second in franchise history, behind only a 26-run outburst in a game against the Boston Red Sox in 1911. The Orioles, on the other hand, suffered the ignominy of allowing the most runs in a game since 1900, a dubious distinction they now share with the Texas Rangers.

This lopsided result further highlighted the struggles of the Orioles’ pitching staff, which currently boasts the worst ERA in the MLB. With pitchers like Morton and Pérez posting inflated ERAs, the Orioles will need to regroup quickly to avoid more lopsided losses in the future.
