Stephen Curry has agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, according to his agent, Jeff Austin. The extension will keep Curry with the Warriors until the 2026-27 season, when he will be 39 years old.
Curry previously signed a four-year, $215 million contract in 2022, and with this extension, he is now set to earn $178 million guaranteed over the next three seasons. In the 2026-27 season, he is projected to become the first NBA player to earn over $60 million in a single season.
Despite being underpaid in the early years of the Warriors’ success, Curry has been the highest-paid player in the NBA since the 2017-18 season. This extension will increase his career earnings to $532.7 million by 2026-27, placing him in an exclusive club alongside other top earners like LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Curry’s contract will now align with Draymond Green’s, assuming Green picks up his player option for the 2026-27 season. The Warriors have no contracts beyond that year, except for Buddy Hield’s 2027-28 player option. Head coach Steve Kerr’s contract, however, only runs through the 2025-26 season.
This extension comes after Curry’s impressive performance in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he helped lead Team USA to a gold medal alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant. In the previous NBA season, Curry averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, earning his 10th All-NBA team selection.
Despite losing key players like Klay Thompson and Chris Paul, the Warriors have made moves to strengthen their roster with additions like De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, and Buddy Hield. The team’s pursuit of a star player in the offseason, however, was unsuccessful.
Looking ahead, the Warriors may continue to make moves as young players like Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody become eligible for contract extensions. Both players were lottery picks in the 2021 draft.
