P.J. Tucker away from Clippers as they work toward split ahead of the season

It seems that P.J. Tucker’s time with the Los Angeles Clippers has come to an end. The Clippers announced on Sunday that the veteran forward will be taking a break from the team while they work to find the best situation for him moving forward.

In a statement, the Clippers said, “We’ve had ongoing conversations with P.J. throughout the offseason and have both decided that he won’t be with the team for the time being. P.J. is a pro who has achieved a lot in his career, and there’s more he wants to accomplish.”

Tucker was acquired by the Clippers last season as part of the deal to bring James Harden from the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he didn’t see much playing time in Los Angeles, appearing in only 28 games and averaging 1.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest.

Despite picking up his player option for this season, Tucker has not played in the preseason and was absent from the team’s media day. It remains to be seen how the Clippers and Tucker will part ways, and which team may be interested in signing him.

Tucker, a former second-round pick by the Toronto Raptors, has had a long and successful career in the NBA, playing for teams like the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Miami Heat. He won a championship with the Bucks in 2021.

The Clippers are set to open their season against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 23.
