Alex Morgan is stepping away from the game, and every press release or article announcing her retirement will rightfully recognize her as one of the greatest female soccer players in history.

Her impressive career includes over 200 goals, with 123 scored for the U.S. women’s national team.

She is a two-time World Cup champion and an Olympic gold medalist.

From her early days as “Baby Horse” known for her speed to her evolution into a versatile striker, Morgan’s journey has been remarkable.

She has a long list of accomplishments, from winning titles in the National Women’s Soccer League to earning various player of the year awards.

But beyond her on-field success, Morgan’s true legacy lies in her advocacy for gender equity.

She played a key role in the USWNT’s fight for equal pay, leading to a groundbreaking agreement with U.S. Soccer and the men’s national team in 2022.

But her impact goes beyond the soccer field. Morgan has been a vocal advocate for better working conditions in sports, supporting players in their fights for justice.

She stood in solidarity with Spanish players protesting mistreatment by their federation and collaborated with athletes worldwide facing similar challenges.

Morgan’s commitment to social change extends to various causes, including LGBTQ+ rights and support for athlete-moms.

She also played a crucial role in exposing abuse and harassment within the NWSL, sparking important reforms.

Her efforts, both public and behind the scenes, have left a lasting mark on women’s soccer and beyond.

“Legend,” wrote Caitlin Clark, while skier Mikaela Shiffrin thanked Morgan for inspiring her and many others.

As she reflects on her career, Morgan is moved by the impact she has had, especially on the next generation.

Her daughter’s desire to follow in her footsteps reminds Morgan of the positive change she has helped create, shaping a brighter future for women in sports.
