Aston Villa are on the verge of securing a deal to acquire Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, as per a report.
22-year-old Onana has been linked with several top European clubs in the last year, with Arsenal and Bayern Munich mentioned as potential suitors during the recent summer transfer window.
However, reports from The Athletic suggest that Aston Villa is set to beat the competition by finalizing a £50m deal to bring the midfielder to Villa Park.
Personal terms have already been agreed upon, with Onana reportedly eager to join Villa manager Unai Emery and challenge himself in the Champions League next season.
Lille, Onana’s former club, are entitled to 20% of the profit from Everton’s sale, which amounts to around £4m.
Aston Villa has been active in the transfer market this summer as they prepare for their upcoming Champions League campaign.
New additions like Ross Barkley and Enzo Barrenechea have been brought in to strengthen the midfield following Douglas Luiz’s departure to Juventus. This deal also included the arrival of winger Samuel Iling Junior at Villa Park.
Furthermore, Villa has signed Lewis Dobbin from Everton and utilized buy-back clauses to secure Cameron Archer from Sheffield United and position themselves as favorites to acquire Hull City’s Jaden Philogene.
While Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher was a target, Villa ultimately opted for Onana to strengthen their midfield.
