When the Boston Celtics faced off against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a battle between the top two teams in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, it seemed like the Celtics would dominate the game at TD Garden. However, the Cavaliers proved why they have the best record in the league with a remarkable comeback in the second half, resulting in a 123-116 victory.
The game started with Boston scoring the first 11 points and taking a commanding 25-3 lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter. Jayson Tatum had an impressive 30 points by halftime, while Jaylen Brown added 19 points. Despite Boston’s strong start, the Cavaliers managed to narrow the gap and show that they were up for the challenge.
Cleveland cut Boston’s lead to 96-95 towards the end of the third quarter, with Donovan Mitchell’s 3-pointer and free throws playing a crucial role. However, Brown’s basket at the buzzer helped the Celtics maintain a slim three-point lead heading into the final quarter.
The Cavaliers staged a remarkable comeback in the fourth quarter, with Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell leading the charge. Mitchell’s 41 points and Garland’s 20 points propelled Cleveland to a hard-fought victory, with Mobley contributing 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite Tatum’s impressive performance with 46 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists, and Brown’s 37 points, the Celtics fell short against the Cavaliers. With the win, Cleveland extended their lead in the Eastern Conference standings to 7 1/2 games over Boston.
Cleveland has now won nine consecutive games and 13 of their last 14, while the Celtics have lost two straight after a six-game winning streak. The Cavaliers will face the Portland Trail Blazers next, while the Celtics will host the Denver Nuggets.
