Celtics sign undrafted third-year forward Sam Hauser to a 4-year, $45 million extension

The Boston Celtics have made another big move in their busy offseason, securing backup forward Sam Hauser with a lucrative four-year, $45 million extension, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hauser, who joined the Celtics in 2021 after going undrafted out of Virginia, has proven himself as one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the league, hitting 42.4% of his shots from beyond the arc on 465 attempts this season. The 26-year-old forward played a significant role for the team, appearing in nearly every regular season game and starting in 13 games.

Under his new contract, Hauser will remain with the Celtics through the 2028-2029 season, earning around $11 million per year. While his deal doesn’t set any records, it adds to the team’s already hefty payroll, which is projected to reach $225 million next season, with an additional $210 million luxury tax penalty.

The Celtics have been active in re-signing key players this offseason, including inking Jayson Tatum to a record-breaking $315 million contract and extending guard Derrick White for $126 million on the same day. With their core locked in, Boston is aiming for a back-to-back championship run next season.
