Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of Italy, expressed his disappointment over his team’s lack of sharpness and tempo during their Euro 2024 round of 16 match against Switzerland. The warm summer weather also played a role in their underwhelming performance, leading to a 2-0 defeat and an early exit from the tournament.

Spalletti, who took over from Roberto Mancini in 2023, acknowledged that there is a long road ahead for the team. He emphasized the need for a higher tempo, spirit of sacrifice, consistency in defense, and overall improvement in performance.

Euro 2024: Italy out

Italy’s campaign in Euro 2024 was marred by inconsistency, with their only highlight being a late equalizer against Croatia in the group stage. Despite showing resilience in their opening game against Albania, they faltered against Spain and ultimately fell short against Switzerland.

Spalletti: Italy ‘too slow’

Spalletti lamented his team’s slow start against Switzerland, with the scoreline already 2-0 against them early in the match. He pointed out the lack of incisiveness and tempo as key factors in their defeat, highlighting the importance of sharpness and pace in elite level football.

Despite making tactical adjustments and substitutions, Italy failed to make an impact and Spalletti acknowledged the limitations of the team at the moment.
