Playing for both Liverpool and Real Madrid is a rare privilege that few players have experienced.

While these two European giants have not engaged in many transfers, there have been notable cases of Liverpool stars making the move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Upon joining Real Madrid, these players have experienced varying levels of success, often sacrificing their legendary status at Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold, beware.

Here are five players who made the switch from Liverpool to Madrid and how they fared.

Steve McManaman of Real Madrid

Steve McManaman was the pioneer in moving from Liverpool to Madrid. After spending nine years with the Reds and winning only the FA Cup and League Cup, he made the switch to Madrid in 1999. Despite initial struggles, he became a fan favorite, winning La Liga and two Champions League titles.

However, competition led to his departure in 2003 after 158 appearances, moving to Manchester City.

Michael Owen

Michael Owen, a Liverpool academy star, had a successful stint with the Reds before moving to Madrid in 2004. Despite a good goal-scoring record, he returned to the Premier League after just one season due to competition.

Owen’s subsequent move to Manchester United further strained his relationship with Liverpool fans.
