Eddie Howe’s Cautionary Words Ahead of Newcastle’s EFL Cup Clash with Arsenal

Eddie Howe is urging his Newcastle side to stay alert as they face Arsenal in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg, with a place in the final at stake. The Magpies secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg at the Emirates, but Howe is wary of Arsenal’s attacking threat, especially after their recent 5-1 win against Manchester City.

Speaking ahead of the crucial match, Howe emphasized the importance of not getting carried away and remaining focused on the task at hand. He highlighted the need to approach the game positively and aggressively, while also acknowledging the quality of their opponents.

Despite Newcastle’s struggles in the January transfer window due to PSR requirements, the club managed to generate revenue through the sales of Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron. Howe expressed his satisfaction with the squad’s quality and their ability to still achieve success despite the challenges they faced.

Regarding the sale of Kelly, Howe admitted that it was a difficult decision, as the player had recently joined the club and showed promise. However, he emphasized the need to make decisions that benefit the team in the long run, even if it meant letting go of talented players.

As Newcastle prepare for the pivotal second leg against Arsenal, Howe’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of staying grounded and focused in their pursuit of EFL Cup glory.
