When UFC president Dana White finally announced the main event for UFC 300, it seemed like he was more relieved than excited. The much-hyped event had a headliner at last: UFC light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira vs. former champ Jamahal Hill.
While this is a solid fight for a UFC pay-per-view main event, it may not have lived up to the sky-high expectations set by White’s promises. It was supposed to be something mind-blowing, but instead, it’s just a good matchup between two tall striking specialists.
White had teased fans with promises of an incredible main event, but it seems like even he didn’t know what it would be until the last minute. Several other options were considered, but ultimately Pereira vs. Hill was chosen as the headline fight.
While the main event may not be as spectacular as promised, the rest of the UFC 300 card is stacked. With two title fights, the “BMF” belt on the line, and exciting matchups like Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan and Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Perhaps our disappointment with the main event stems from unrealistic expectations set by White’s promotional hype. It’s important to remember that MMA is unpredictable, and a good fight card is more than just a headline bout.
Ultimately, the UFC 300 lineup is filled with top-tier talent and exciting matchups. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best fights are the ones we didn’t see coming.
