Luka Dončić and LeBron James Miss Lakers Debut, Austin Reaves Shines
Unfortunately for fans at Crypto.com Arena and viewers on ESPN, Luka Dončić did not make his anticipated Los Angeles Lakers debut on Saturday. The disappointment continued as LeBron James was also sidelined due to left ankle soreness.
Initially set to face the Indiana Pacers, the Lakers made a last-minute decision to hold off on Dončić’s debut until Monday against the Utah Jazz, leaving ESPN without their expected star power for the broadcast. However, in a surprising turn of events, Austin Reaves stole the show with a career-high 45 points in a 124-117 victory over the Pacers.
Reaves delivered an impressive performance, shooting 14-of-26 from the field, including 4-of-9 on 3-pointers, and a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. Alongside his scoring, he contributed seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
The Lakers showcased their depth with Rui Hachimura scoring 24 points and Gabe Vincent adding 12 points and seven assists. Jaxson Hayes also stepped up with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Anthony Davis made his return to the Dallas Mavericks, putting up 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks before exiting due to a groin injury. Despite the setback, Davis reassured fans that the injury was minor.
In the end, the Lakers continue to shine without their star players, winning five consecutive games and securing the fourth spot in the Western Conference standings. The team looks forward to Dončić’s potential debut on Monday against the Jazz.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Lakers’ journey with their newest addition and the upcoming matchups on the horizon.
