Lavar Ball Opens Up About Health Struggles After Foot Amputation

Lavar Ball

After recently undergoing a right foot amputation, Lavar Ball has shared details about his serious health battles. In a heartfelt article for SLAM magazine, Ball disclosed that a dangerous infection entered his bloodstream, putting his life at risk.

Ball, the father of NBA stars Lonzo and LaMelo, as well as rapper Gelo (LiAngelo), described the challenges he faced over the past few months. Following the discovery of an infection in his foot due to diabetes, Ball underwent multiple surgeries and blood transfusions.

“I had an infection in my foot that spread through my blood because I didn’t manage my diabetes properly,” Ball wrote. “I eventually had to have my leg amputated. It started with losing a couple of toes, then my foot, and finally, they had to go almost up to my knee for another surgery. Three surgeries and multiple blood transfusions followed.”

These procedures took a toll on Ball, both physically and mentally, making him question if it was the end for him.

“It made me contemplate if it was time to give up,” Ball admitted.

Despite losing his right foot, Ball survived the infection and credited his sons for giving him strength during this ordeal. Both LaMelo and Lonzo Ball play significant roles in their respective NBA teams, and Gelo’s music gained popularity while Ball was ill.

“I’m the Big Baller,” Ball expressed. “I’m resilient. But I have to acknowledge that my boys kept me going.”
