Mets drop game No. 34, this time to the Cardinals, as wild MLB streak hits 16 years

Unfortunately for the New York Mets, game 34 continues to elude them.

In a doubleheader on Sunday at Busch Stadium in Missouri, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Mets 5-4 in what turned out to be the Mets’ 34th game of the season. This game was a makeup from a weather delay on Saturday.

It seems that a curse has plagued the Mets for over a decade now, as they have now lost their 34th game of the season for 16 consecutive years. This strange and seemingly inconsequential streak began in 2010 when the Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals, 6-4, and has continued every year since.

What makes this streak even more bizarre is that the Mets have faced 13 different teams during this time period, indicating that it is not tied to any specific opponent.

While this streak may not have any significant impact on the overall performance of the Mets, it remains a peculiar anomaly in their season. Despite making the playoffs four times, including a World Series appearance, the Mets just can’t seem to win game No. 34.

Following the loss on Sunday, the Mets now have a record of 22-13 for the season. Their next series will be against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Although this dry spell for the Mets will eventually come to an end, it is surprising that it has persisted for this long. Based on current trends, it is likely that the Mets will once again fall short in game No. 34 next spring.
