In response to Reddick’s request, the Jets have issued a public statement declaring that they will not trade him.
It’s hard to recall a similar situation in the past. At this point, it appears as though the Jets have inherited a contract standoff from the Philadelphia Eagles and paid them a third-round pick for the trouble.
The big question now is how far Reddick is willing to take this stand. Despite accruing over $1 million in fines for missing training camp, his salary for the season exceeds $14 million. Will he be prepared to sacrifice all or part of it by sitting out during the regular season?
Only time will tell, but it certainly seems like the odds are increasing.
