Carlos Prates faced his first setback in the UFC after an impressive 4-0 streak in 2024, losing a decision to Ian Machado Garry in the main event of Saturday’s Kansas City show. However, he remains determined to evolve as a fighter.
The Brazilian welterweight chose not to attend the post-fight press conference after his intense 25-minute battle with Garry in Kansas City. Instead, he took to his Instagram page to share a brief statement in Portuguese.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t secure the victory in the fight, but that won’t deter me. My apologies to my family, I promise to return stronger,” Prates expressed.
Prates played a pivotal role in the Fighting Nerds team’s impressive 19-0 record in the UFC alongside top talents Caio Borralho, Jean Silva, and Mauricio Ruffy. However, their streak came to an end with Prates’ defeat, leaving them 19-1.
Silva, showing unwavering support, declared on social media, “We are a family and champions together. We will overcome this obstacle united. To the critics, we stand by ‘The Nightmare’ through thick and thin.”
Borralho, regarded as the “team captain” of the Sao Paulo group, shared a video on social media rallying behind his teammate.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support shown towards our team and Carlos,” Borralho expressed. “We accept this defeat with grace, knowing that we will emerge stronger. We will regroup, study the game, and return better than ever.”
“Carlos will bounce back stronger, surpassing his previous self. Congratulations to Ian, Chute Boxe, we hold immense respect for you. To our supporters, thank you for your unwavering love. We are revolutionizing the game, this setback is temporary, we will return soon. Stay tuned, much love to all,” Borralho concluded.
