The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently seeking out a fan who reportedly made “racially charged comments” towards Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green during a recent game.
In a statement released on Friday, the team revealed that they were made aware of the incident where a fan directed these inappropriate comments at Green, but unfortunately, the individual had already left the arena before they could be identified.
The Timberwolves have stated that other spectators were able to pinpoint the fan in question.
Additionally, the team confirmed that another fan was ejected from the game for “violating the NBA Fan Code of Conduct in an incident involving Draymond Green,” although no further details were provided regarding this particular ejection.
The altercation took place during the fourth quarter, as per the team’s statement. While specific details were not disclosed by the league, footage circulated on social media showing Green engaging in a verbal exchange with a fan while cycling near the Warriors’ tunnel. The individual who shared the video alleged that the fan used racially charged language towards Green.
Green may have incited the fans earlier in the game when he received a technical foul for striking Naz Reid in the face after the Timberwolves’ center fouled him. This marked Green’s fifth technical foul in just nine playoff games, putting him at risk of suspension if he accumulates two more.
Following the game, where the Warriors suffered a 117-93 loss, Green expressed his frustration with the continuous conflicts with officials, stating that he is tired of being portrayed as an “angry Black man.”
Green did not address the fan ejection or the racially charged comments post-game.
The Timberwolves are currently conducting an investigation into the matter and have indicated that further actions may be taken. The team emphasized their commitment to maintaining an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for all attendees.
