Today, Dan Pompei penned an excellent article about Derrick Henry, shedding light on his passion for football and his dedication to maintaining peak physical condition (even spending around $240,000 annually to do so!). It’s disappointing to see The King take the field for the Baltimore Ravens this season.
A particularly intriguing revelation in the piece was the confirmation of a rumored deal from last year’s NFL trade deadline – where Ran Carthon had a trade lined up to send Henry to the Ravens. However, it fell through due to disagreements within the Titans organization. While some may be upset by this, I find it commendable!
I delved deeper into this topic in today’s episode of the Homerun Throwback podcast. Tune in here.
Considering the potential return for Henry, the Titans were reportedly looking at a conditional third-round pick, but realistically it might have only amounted to a fourth-rounder. Trading away a future Titans legend like Henry for a day 3 pick, especially after parting ways with Kevin Byard, would have been a tough pill for fans to swallow.
Let’s not forget the highlight of last season – Henry’s dominant 153-yard performance that dashed the Jacksonville Jaguars’ playoff hopes. That moment held more significance to me than any day 3 pick could have. The King also had the chance to bid farewell to the fans and organization:
That moment was truly unforgettable.
