Mayra Bueno Silva has made a significant decision to join The Fighting Nerds ahead of her upcoming UFC Saudi Arabia fight with Jasmine Jasudavicius on Feb. 1. However, this move is not about training or her MMA career.
Known as “Sheetara”, Mayra, who previously trained at American Top Team in Florida, explained that her return to Sao Paulo, the home state of her wife Gloria de Paula, is to focus on starting a family. After being together since August 2016, Mayra and Gloria are now planning to have a baby.
Mayra expressed, “We’re going to be moms. We’ll start the in vitro fertilization process and be close to family, close to home, and our moms because it’s a challenging process for Gloria while I’m in camp. I want her to be as comfortable as possible and surrounded by love. That’s why we’re back. I love American Top Team, I love my little man ‘Parrumpa’. We had no issues, nothing like that. We only came back because we decided to become mothers.”
Having previously competed for the UFC bantamweight belt in January 2024, Mayra is now returning to flyweight division in search of new challenges. On the other hand, Gloria has had a tough time since parting ways with the UFC in June 2022. Mayra also shared her desire to have her own pregnancy in the future, but for now, it’s Gloria’s turn.
Mayra mentioned, “We started the IVF process now. Gloria will get pregnant first, and in the future, it’s my turn. I really want to experience pregnancy. My childhood dream was to get married and become a mom. I want to get pregnant in the future, yes.”
Reflecting on her career and life goals, Mayra emphasized the importance of enjoying every moment as a female fighter. She acknowledged that time is limited in her career and expressed her desire to cherish every fight and experience.
At 33 years old, Mayra is making a comeback to the flyweight division after a hiatus, seeking motivation and excitement in pursuing another title. She sees this as a new challenge that ignites her passion.
Although cutting weight to meet the flyweight limit is a tough process, Mayra’s determination and hyperactivity drive her through the challenges. She remains focused on her goal despite the sacrifices required.
Recalling a difficult fight week against Manon Fiorot, where she had to cut weight twice due to COVID-related issues, Mayra considers it a painful experience. She learned from that tough time and is now focused on her health and weight management.
As she prepares to face Jasudavicius in her upcoming fight, Mayra acknowledges the skills of her opponent but also sees areas where she can capitalize. She respects Jasudavicius’ grappling abilities but believes she has the advantage in finishing fights.
