Kyle Lowry, the 38-year-old guard, has officially signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, choosing to stay in his hometown. This decision was confirmed in a video he posted on his Instagram account.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, negotiations to retain Lowry in Philadelphia intensified over the past week as he explored other options. The President of Basketball Operations for the 76ers, Daryl Morey, successfully secured a deal to keep Lowry in the team for another season, although the financial details have not been disclosed.

Lowry, who joined the 76ers in February, has been a valuable asset to the team, averaging 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 23 games. He started 20 games during the past season, playing an average of over 28 minutes per game.

With this new contract, Lowry will be aiming to win a championship alongside his teammates Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and the recent addition, Paul George, who signed a $212 million max contract with the 76ers last week.

Before his time with the Miami Heat, Lowry spent nine seasons with the Toronto Raptors, where he achieved great success, including winning an NBA championship in 2019. He is a six-time All-Star, earning this honor consecutively from 2015 to 2020.

Notably, Lowry holds several records with the Raptors, including most assists, triple-doubles, steals, and 3-pointers in the franchise’s history.
