Kansas City Royals young superstar Bobby Witt Jr. achieved a historic milestone on Tuesday night by becoming the first MLB shortstop to record back-to-back 30-30 seasons. In the first inning of the game against the Detroit Tigers, Witt Jr. stole his 30th base of the season, adding to his impressive 32 home runs. Here is a list of primary shortstops who have accomplished the 30-30 feat:

  • Bobby Witt Jr., Royals, 2024
  • Bobby Witt Jr., Royals, 2023
  • Francisco Lindor, Mets, 2023
  • Hanley Ramirez, Marlins, 2008
  • Jimmy Rollins, Phillies, 2007
  • Alex Rodriguez, Mariners, 1998
  • Barry Larkin, Reds, 1996

Witt Jr. made history with his second 30-30 season, a feat no other primary shortstop has achieved. Meanwhile, Mets’ Lindor is on the verge of joining Witt in this exclusive club with 31 home runs and 27 stolen bases, despite battling back issues. Witt Jr., at just 24 years old, has demonstrated exceptional performance in his third season, boasting an OPS+ of 169 and a WAR of 8.6. While Aaron Judge is a strong contender for the AL MVP award, Witt Jr. is also a top candidate. Additionally, the Royals are poised to make their first postseason appearance since their 2015 World Series victory.
